One of the best spots to see sakura in Japan, and honestly nothing could have prepared me for how beautiful it was in person. Shinjuku Gyoen has over 1,000 cherry blossom trees and it shows.
If you’re planning a Japan trip in spring, put this on your list. Peak sakura season in Tokyo is usually late March to early April, timing is everything.

timing cherry blossom season in japan is harder than it looks 🌸
everyone makes it seem so simple, just check the forecast, book your flights, show up. but sakura season moves fast and it’s different in every city. fukuoka blooms earlier than tokyo, but even then, you’re chasing a two week window that shifts every single year depending on the winter.
we planned this trip months in advance. checked the forecasts. thought we had it right.
we didn’t.
we arrived in fukuoka and found bare branches everywhere we went. no pink, no petals, nothing. just empty trees and a lot of tourists who looked just as confused as we did.
we almost gave up. and then we found one tree, just one, that had started to bloom early. one branch covered in the softest pink blossoms we’d ever seen.
we spent two hours photographing that one tree. and honestly? it ended up being one of our favourite travel days ever.
you don’t need perfect timing. you just need to show up and stay curious.

EP. 10 — Tin Hau
hunting amber in Tin Hau 🎨 This neighbourhood has a warmth to it you feel before you see it.
Found it in a lantern burning so bright it barely looked real. In flowers left outside a stall long after Chinese New Year ended. In a temple named after a goddess who has watched over this harbour for centuries.
Tin Hau amber doesn’t fade. It just burns quietly.

hunting green in Quarry Bay 🎨 Green doesn’t announce itself here, you have to earn it.
Wandered the streets and it kept showing up quietly in walls, in a tram that’s been running these streets for over a hundred years, in the gaps between buildings that barely leave room for sky.
Monster Building stopped me completely. It’s one of those spots that just holds you there.

Next stop: Kennedy Town (Blue) 💙
Blue always brings me back to the ocean, and this area couldn’t fit it better. I stopped by the viral photo spot where you can see the cars and the sea in one frame, easily one of the best views on the Island Line.

Wandered around the shoreline too, catching different blue tones from the sky, the water, and random bits of the pier. Calm, coastal, and a little cinematic, this stop felt like a quiet pause in the city.

Next stop: Sai Wan Ho (Yellow) 💛
This one feels a bit more personal. I used to live here when I was a kid, so coming back with my camera was a bit of a full-circle moment.

I drew a lot of inspiration from the market stalls — the yellow tarps, hanging lights, and warm tones from all the street food spots I grew up eating at. It’s a colour that just feels alive here.

Next stop: Shau Kei Wan (Blue) 💙
Blue isn’t the easiest colour to hunt for, but this neighbourhood made it work. Being close to the ocean, there’s a lot of that natural blue energy, from the pier and fishing boats to bits of sky reflecting off the water.

Spent most of the time shooting by the pier, catching those calm seaside moments and subtle blue tones around the area. Not the boldest colour, but definitely one of the most peaceful stops so far.

We shot this in North Point, one of the most classic Hong Kong neighborhoods, full of neon signs, red tones, and that nostalgic city energy.
Wearing a red Tang jacket while holding Pikachu in his own feels like the most Chinese time of my life 🇭🇰
It’s wild how Pokémon has been with me since childhood, and now it’s part of my story here too.

This time, I was on the hunt for anything red, signs, walls, trucks… but my favourite find was this fire hydrant that had completely collapsed onto the ground. Somehow it just fit the vibe, worn down, a little chaotic, but still bright and full of character.

Finally got to check out the Kam Tin Ten-Yearly Thanksgiving Festival (錦田十年一度太平清醮), it only happens once every 10 years! 🤯 The energy here was unreal, lion dances, parades, and food stalls everywhere 🍢🎉 It even holds a Guinness World Records title for being one of the biggest village festivals in Hong Kong 🇭🇰

Also took this chance to test out the @venuslaowa 10mm lens on my @sonycine FX3, perfect for capturing those ultra-wide festival shots and crowds 🙌

Every time I’m back in Tokyo, I somehow end up at Shibuya Crossing again. It never gets old, just watching the waves of people move in every direction, everyone doing their own thing. You see all kinds of characters here… locals rushing home, tourists trying to film everything, people dressed like they walked out of an anime.

Brought the Insta360 this time to see what it looks like from every angle, it really captures that energy perfectly. And yeah, don’t mind my Naruto run in the middle 😂 just trying to keep up with Tokyo’s pace.

Something about this place always reminds me why I love being here.
